Technology

The unique kinematics of our EPS SingleTool and MultiTool combined with our Maximizer 1.0 software give us 3 advantages over existing techologies.

1. Reduce Cycle Times 25%

Our Adaptive Grind Force Control™ (AFC) reduces cycle time by controlling the desired normal grinding force rather than the infeed velocity as shown on the adjacent figure. This results in faster metal removal rates, limited only by available power.

Dwell times are also minimized with by applying our Adaptive Grind Force Control™ during dwell.

Grinding process knowledge is built into the control. Reducing the need for skilled operators

2. Hold in process gauge tolerances without the gauge

The figure above left shows the Normal Grind Force vs. Cycle time for 43 parts. All of the parts except part 47 had nominally 0.3 mm stock. Part 47 had only 0.08 mm stock. The figure above right shows the finished diameter variation. This figure shows that although it had very little stock, it was ground to the same size as the others, just like a machine with an inprocess gauge would.

3. Eliminate the need for formed diamond rolls

Using our “A” axis, True Normal contour dressing keeps the grinding wheel perpendicular to the diamond during contour dress operations. This enables us to generate accurate contour dress profiles. The adjacent figure shows Wt=2.65 μm max-min form deviation obtained grinding a ball track with a 6.73 mm radius.

The same software can be used to generate very accurate “crowns” in tapered roller bearing (TRB) races. As shown in the adjacent figure.
